Celebrating Windrush Day with such a vibrant community allowed us to reflect on the vital roles these individuals played in building the NHS and our public transport networks, alongside the contributions of migrants from African, Asian, and other nations.
The event brought together 100 students, aged 13 to 17, from across the King Edward VI Foundation schools. Urban Synergy led the charge with a Personal Brand session and Speed Mentoring activities. After being prepped on how to present their best selves, students engaged in fast-paced mentoring rounds with professionals from a diverse range of prestigious organizations, including:
- Capital Group
- Deloitte
- Crown Prosecution Service
- Softcat
- JCDecaux
- Birmingham Council
- Athena Mentors
The impact of these sessions was immediate. One student reflected on the value of the Personal Brand session, saying: “Thank you Miss for this event and telling us about things that should be obvious, but they aren’t.”
The mentors were equally inspired by the students' enthusiasm. Emilia from Deloitte shared: “All students were engaged and while some of them shied away from asking questions, there was genuine interest and appreciation of our time.”
