The event was designed to demystify the corporate world, offering students a rare, behind-the-scenes look at a global powerhouse. From the moment they arrived, the day was packed with opportunities to engage directly with industry professionals.
Dianne Johnson, Head of Programmes at Urban Synergy, kicked off the day, while Sarmad Javaid, Valuations Manager at PwC, gave students an insider’s look into PwC’s lines of business.
Early careers at PwC
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Early Careers Panel. Students heard from a fantastic group of PwC professionals—Reena Dhesi, Rahim Rashid, Matt Griffiths, and Lucy Carmichael—who shared honest accounts of their professional journeys.
The conversation went beyond the standard career talk. Students had the chance to participate in a "Speed Mentoring" session, where they could ask direct questions, seek advice, and learn exactly what it takes to succeed in a fast-paced environment.
Student feedback on the Insight Day
"It was an excellent, informative day for all of my students," noted Ian Bettison, Maths Subject Leader at King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls.
By the end of the afternoon, the impact was clear. Students left not only with valuable knowledge about apprenticeships and university routes but with newfound clarity regarding their own career paths.
Student Avani shared, "I really enjoyed getting to know about the company's core values and what they promote, as well as hearing from the panellists about their journey with PwC."
For Hiba, the day provided crucial validation: "I really enjoyed speaking to the panel of current students doing degree apprenticeships and gaining insight into the application process. Hearing an honest evaluation... has helped me in narrowing down my options.".
Demystifying the corporate world for students
This Insight Day was more than just a trip out of the classroom; it was an investment in the next generation of talent. By connecting students with real-world role models and showing them the diverse pathways available—from apprenticeships to graduate programmes—we are helping them build the confidence to chase their ambitions.
A huge thank you to the team at PwC Birmingham for hosting us and to our inspiring student attendees. We can’t wait to see where these young leaders go next!
