Building on our commitment to provide early access to real-world experiences, we were thrilled to host All Saints Catholic School for an online career talk session. Offering them a unique opportunity to learn from a diverse panel and their experiences.
Opening doors to new pathways
Hearing directly from people working in different industries builds belief and expands horizons. During this session, students engaged with three role models who demonstrated that success is attainable through multiple routes:
- Andrew Woo – Former Business Manager at M&G, who shared high-level insights into the world of finance and business management.
- Leyna Amiche – An Urban Synergy alumnus and current Business Support Assistant Apprentice at WTW, who provided a relatable and current perspective on the benefits of the apprenticeship route.
- Dr Sarah Ann Filson – Consultant in Infection at London North West University Healthcare NHS, who discussed the dedication required for a specialized career in clinical microbiology and antimicrobial stewardship.
“Blown Away” – A teacher’s perspective
The impact of these empowering career talks for students was immediately visible. Following the event, Miss Lisa Augustin from All Saints Catholic School shared how much the experience energized her cohort:
"The Year 11 students, in particular, were absolutely 'blown away' by the session. The energy was incredible—by the end, they were even trying to jump into my iPhone camera to wave goodbye to the panelists!
Because so many of them were specifically interested in the apprenticeship pathways discussed, I’ll be putting up Urban Synergy posters around the school to get them signed up for the mentoring programme right away."
We are looking for corporate leaders to help shape the careers of tomorrow. Share your organization's expertise and help us bridge the gap between education and industry.
