On Wednesday 11th April 2012, Urban Synergy held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Thomson Reuters, Canary Wharf.
It was an emotional and inspiring evening to hear how mentors and role models in Urban Synergy have made an impact in over 1,000 young peoples lives in 2011. A parent spoke of how mentors did what seemed to be impossible, forming an almost instant connection with her teenage daughter. She spoke about the gradual, if not yet complete changes, the consistency, and the total commitment by all of Urban Synergy family to support her and her daughter. Her daughter is now predicted to get B grades and is looking forward to going to college.
Vice Principal Martin Nirsimloo spoke of how his school St Matthews is now one of the most improved schools in the UK, and how our ongoing multi programme support and quality work experience has been a major contribution to this success. One of younger Mentees spoke how his Mentor supported him consistently in times of need, and is how he is thankful for this support.
There was also an award for our two Star Mentees. The awards were presented by a previous recipient, ‘TJ’ Anthony Binns, to Reanne Jones and Elliott Henry-Hughes. They both received their Urban Synergy star award certificates and vouchers from Diesel. Anthony also spoke about what he had been doing since winning his star mentee award; volunteering with young people and studying graphic design at college as well as being a DJ in his spare time.
We also introduced our new Charity Directors:-
- Courtenay Griffiths QC (Chair)
- Ed Simpson (Company Secretary)
