RISE 2017 LaunchWednesday 1st February 2017 saw the launch of the RISE Programme at Barclays, 1 Churchill Place Canary Wharf. Now in it’s third year, the programme is a collaboration between Urban Synergy, Barclays Black Professional’s Forum and students from Christ The King Sixth Form College.

RISE (Revealing the Industry to Secondary Education) is a mentoring programme designed to engage, equip and encourage young people aged 16 – 19 with the soft skills and confidence they need to excel post-secondary education. RISE will see young students take part in a 3 month scheme run from February to April 2017, working 1-2-1 with mentors who will inspire, and support them to be confident in any career ambitions they have.

Mentees will establish personal goals with their mentors and attend twice monthly workshops on goal setting, professional leadership development, CV Writing, Interview skills, networking with senior managers, presentation skills and a computer coding session.

The Barclays Rise Programme was founded by a former Christ the King student alongside their fellow colleagues within the Barclays Graduate Scheme. Christ the King is a highly successful sixth form college based in South East London and educates 2700, 16-18 year olds each year. Despite the college being located in one of the most socially and economically deprived local authorities in London, over 90% of our student’s progress onto University or work following the completion of their Level 3 studies. Programmes such as Barclays Rise are a key element in our success and we are grateful of the support from both Barclay’s and Urban Synergy.
