Our annual visit to the Pineapple Club has become a key component of our Life Enrichment Programme for our young people, it’s a great opportunity to meet and socialise with an older generation and learn valuable life skills. The club based in Anerley Town Hall offers social welfare and recreation to people in the surrounding areas.
Our mentees and Urban Synergy volunteers were warmly greeted by Mrs Malcolm who runs the club. After introductions, they were put to work helping to prepare for lunch and meeting some of the many regulars.
For many young people, the thought of socialising with an older generation is met with some trepidation about finding common ground. But those worries soon disappeared as all our young people sat and talked with regulars, even showing one gentleman how to use his new mobile phone!
Our thanks to Pineapple Club for allowing us to visit and especially Mrs Malcolm who spent her valuable time talking to our mentees about respecting and helpingĀ their elders.
