In memory of our Mentor Sylvana Chiappa

Urban Synergy has lost one of its special and dedicated mentors with Sylvana Chiappa passing on Sunday 21st August.

Being a ‘Top Tips To The Top’ Role Model Seminar Panelist, Sylvana shared her Chartered Surveyor career path and inspired hundreds of young people in Lewisham to aim for the top. She also 1-2-1 mentored a young lady giving her guidance to help her achieve her dreams.

We will miss Sylvana’s vibrant personality, spirit and her passion for mentoring.

[quote]I first came to London and felt quite alone after I had done my regular 9 – 6 job. I felt the need to do something meaningful with my spare time. A good friend of mine said that she knew someone involved with working with young adults, would I be interested? I jumped at the idea of meeting new friends and being involved in London.

Sylvana was introduced to me and immediately ‘we clicked’. She was positive and no nonsense and we spent a lot of time talking about business, since she was self employed. I like her spirit and I felt excited that I had met someone so full of life. We exchanged numbers and a few weeks later I got introduced to her church and a few of her friends.

I didn’t hear her for a while and I had seriously thought thought that she had forgotten about me. Then out of the blue, I received a call, inviting me out to a meeting with Urban Synergy. We spoke several times on the phone and then arranged to meet at one of the Urban Synergy’s meeting. We sat together and we talk about our own experiences of helping the kids. She talked about the pros and cons of living London and the everyday effect on the black youths.

We spoke many times after that, about how we intend to positively impact the lives of the Urban Synergy Kids. She was passionate about this and her passion was contagious. I was pleasantly surprised to have seen her at the last House of Commons event. I knew she was ill, but she lookedso healthy and shined. She was in her element. She loved what she was doing for Urban Synergy. She loved being in that environment…… and it showed.

I will never forget Sylvanna. Never. She was a beautiful person both inside and out. She loved the concept of helping others and her many good works is a testament as to how she lived her live.
