Dynamic Planner CEO Ben Goss empowering youth at a school careers event
Every young person deserves a chance to flourish. For Ben Goss, CEO of Dynamic Planner, that belief transformed into action when he became a volunteer with Urban Synergy, empowering youth with mentoring, offering guidance and a sounding board.

How and when did you first find out about Urban Synergy?

I first came across Urban Synergy online, I think it was around 2019. I remember hearing a news report about another stabbing in South East London, where I grew up, and it really made me stop and think; what can I do to help young people? So I went online, did some searching, and that’s how I discovered Urban Synergy. I picked up the phone and spoke to Dianne.

What was your goal when mentoring young people?

Honestly, my goal was just to help. I’ve been fortunate enough to have had mentors in my own business career, so I know how valuable it is to have someone who’s been down that path before and can share a few shortcuts. In my case, I mentored Daouda, a really talented and ambitious young man. I think, more than anything, I served as a sounding board for him.

How have you seen your mentee change before and after mentoring?

I think mentoring can definitely be helpful, but ultimately, any real growth or change comes down to the mentee. I can’t take credit for that. With Daouda, we worked quite a bit on interview techniques and presentation skills. I was able to share some tips and insights, but he really put in the work himself and that’s where the real progress came from.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about becoming a mentor with Urban Synergy?

I’d say, get in touch. It’s incredibly rewarding to help young people grow and see them flourish. If you’re someone who wants to make a difference, mentoring is such a powerful way to contribute.
