30 students aged 16-17 years from Christ the King Sixth Form - Aquinas campus in Brockley, south London visited Sony PlayStation London Studios at the offices in London on 11th October. The event was co-hosted by Dianne Johnson from Urban Synergy and Gareth Mills, Senior Producer.
Students heard about the interesting career journey from the Studio Head, Stuart Whyte (also one of the Corporate Advisory Board members for Urban Synergy) which led him to PlayStation. The students also listened to Role Model Panellists from different departments: Annem - Studio Communications Manager, Christine - Game Director, Matthew - Corporate Counsel, Prince - Project Manager PS Store & Platforms and Lewis - Sound Designer. PlayStation volunteers from different parts of the business provided insights to their roles and shared advice to the students during an interactive speed mentoring session.
The event was highly rated with the students and 100% of them learned about a career they were not aware of before, they all learned about skills valued in the workplace and 96% felt more confident about their future.
We’ve included some student feedback below:
‘I enjoyed learning about different pathways that can be taken and how different careers can link like game development and music and can come together as a career. Also, it was informative to know how games are made and the different aspects of it.’
‘I enjoyed the way the event was set up and how welcoming the environment was. It was really useful in giving me insight into different jobs that I have never heard of.’
‘I enjoyed how the mentors gave us exposure to corporate life and insight into how the teams and organisations work. Thank you!’
Thank you to everyone at Sony PlayStation who volunteered their time to make the event engaging and insightful for the students.
