During March we have had so much fun meeting hundred of girls and inspiring them through interactions and support with relatable female role models.
We understand the need to empower young women and raise their aspirations by illuminating career pathways for them to follow. We want young women to aim high and become future leaders.
In fact, we are a female led charity with Leila at our helm. Over her career she has often been asked “How do we get more people like you to work here?” by her colleagues. This referencing the lack of women in Technology as well as people of colour.
Her answer has always been “Hire the amazing young talented people we work with at Urban Synergy”.
In March we held mock interviews with 173 students, who are preparing for their work experience later this year, at Harris Academy Bermondsey (HAB), an all girl school. The girls were given a short pep talk before meeting role model volunteers from companies such as Dynamic Planner, London Stock Exchange Group, Moody’s and Stryker UK among many others.
Gizlé Landman, Principal, HAB, said “Thank you so much for coming and spending the time with our year ten students today. I saw them at lunchtime, and they were buzzing with excitement at the experiences they had with you today. The impact on their spirits and their belief in themselves is immeasurable, it has enabled them to believe in what is possible for each of them, so thank you again.”
We also attended the Rocking Ur Teens Conference a Teen Conference for 13-14 Year-Old Girls, Celebrating International Women’s Day with students from Prendergast School.
The conference, hosted by NatWest focused on: Self, Collaboration, Career and Making a Difference.
We held a career panel at St Augustines School with Sharon Blackman, MD & General Counsel at Citi and Jacquline Alcindor Global Diversity and Inclusion Programme Partner, Legal & General Investment Management, talking to 90 girls aged 9 to 11 years of age.
We are so pleased to have met so many talented, enthusiastic and curious girls and young women, during womens history month and look forward to welcoming them into the workforce in the years to come.
