To celebrate International Women’s Day, Urban Synergy recently hosted a high-impact assembly at Christ the King (CTK) Sixth Form, bringing together 150 Year 12 students for a morning of insight, ambition and information on career pathways.
The event gave me a better idea of what I would like to do in the future and made me more motivated to do more for my career and look into more opportunities.
A panel of exceptional role models
“I like the very informative session that took place today, they really showed how women can have an impact on our world of work.” - Sophia
The highlight of the event featured a panel of trailblazers who answered candid questions from students and staff about their professional journeys, the challenges they’ve navigated, and their greatest achievements.
We were particularly proud to welcome back Success Morrison, a former CTK student and current Data Management Apprentice at M&G, who shared her personal transition from these very classrooms to a career in finance. She was joined by fellow Urban Synergy alumna Pascaline Akas, now a Digital Business Apprentice at Google, who spoke about her experiences after participating in our programmes. Together, their presence provided a powerful "full-circle" moment, demonstrating to current students exactly what is possible with the right mindset and support.
“I really loved how they presented their answers to our questions and were able to use their personal experiences.” - John
The alumni were joined by Margaret Casely-Hayford CBE, an Urban Synergy Patron and Non-Executive Director at the Oxford Street Development Corporation and the Department of Education & Skills, who continues her long-standing advocacy for the next generation. Rounding out the panel was Sarah Lavender, a Line Producer at ITN and Urban Synergy UShine Awards winner, whose story of achievement in the media industry offered a unique and inspiring perspective on creative success.
Nearly 20 years of opening doors
“It was a very insightful experience which made me more motivated to be bolder in life as I am one of the shy ones.” - Osunja
For nearly two decades, Urban Synergy has been dedicated to bridging the gap between talent and opportunity. Seeing former students now thriving at global brands like Google and M&G Plc serves as a vital reminder that representation matters.
