Meet Dmitry Logan! Dmitry joined our e-mentoring programme in 2020 and has since successfully started an apprenticeship with M&G. Here’s what he had to say.
I found Urban Synergy’s e-mentoring programme beneficial.
My mentor was Stephen Lue, a lawyer which at the time was the field I wanted to go into. He helped me with many things such as working on my CV, updating my linkedin and even gave me the opportunity to shadow him at his law firm in London.
The best part of my work experience at M&G was shadowing my mentor.
It made me realise that there is so much more out there to the corporate world other than corporate law. I discovered many other areas that I would enjoy more. With my mentor I learnt valuable interview skills and communication skills. I’ve taken these skills away with me to many successful interviews.
My apprenticeship with M&G was what I expected and more.
We did group tasks on the youth and how to educate them on financial jargon. This activity made me realise how much I love working in a group on projects. At the beginning of the work experience I felt unsure about what exactly it was that I wanted to do in the corporate world. But, doing the work experience reassured me how much I love project management.
My first month at M&G has been fantastic, I’ve been working with a team and on projects like an actual employee. I’ve taken so much away in such little time because everyone is understanding. Everyone does their best to make sure I’ve got a good understanding of what's going on in each project and how to deal with certain situations.
The experience I’ve had with Urban Synergy has been vital in landing this apprenticeship and becoming the person I am today.
Everyone involved in the programme has shown me nothing but positivity. From the start they’ve always believed in me no matter what.
One piece of advice I would give to future mentees is never shy away from any opportunities that are given to you.
Networking is key. Even if it’s something you think you might not enjoy or want to be a part of, always go at it with a positive mindset. You never know who you’ll speak to that can point you in the right direction.
