A hands-on journey into the world of investment

Students stepped into the Legal & General Investment Management offices for a full and dynamic LGIM Insight Day designed to demystify the world of financial services and open doors to careers many had never considered before.
The day began with a warm welcome from the Inclusion & Wellbeing team and the SEM Co-Chairs, followed by an insightful session led by Martin Appiah, Head of EMEA Fixed Income, who introduced students to the mission, impact, and global reach of Legal & General. Martin’s talk sparked curiosity across the room, setting the tone for a day packed with learning, confidence-building, and hands-on financial problem-solving.
Financial Bingo, investing basics & real-world action
Students kicked off their morning with Financial Bingo, a lively icebreaker that helped break down barriers and get everyone thinking about money and markets in a fun, accessible way.
Using the knowledge gained from Martin’s session and with support from an enthusiastic team of LGIM employees, students worked in small groups to create their own investment funds from scratch. They analysed risk, explored sectors, weighed environmental and social impact, and brought their creativity to the world of finance.
This wasn’t theory, this was students stepping into the shoes of real analysts, testing ideas, backing their reasoning, and experiencing what investment management looks like in practice during the LGIM Insight Day.
One standout moment was watching students confidently present their fund ideas in front of the entire room; all 90 students, their teachers, Urban Synergy staff, and LGIM colleagues. Their ideas were varied, bold, and thoughtful, showing how quickly young people can grasp complex concepts when supported by patient, passionate professionals. The presentations were met with applause, smiles, and a sense of genuine pride from everyone in the room.
Role Models & real insight into careers
The morning continued with a vibrant Role Model Panel featuring LGIM professionals who shared their journeys, challenges, and advice for navigating the world of work. Students asked thoughtful questions, explored different routes into finance, and gained a clearer picture of the many paths available within Legal & General; one of the most impactful parts of the LGIM Insight Day experience.

The Insight Day at LGIM left students inspired, informed, and more confident about stepping into the world of financial services. Many had walked in with only a vague idea of what Legal & General does and walked out having built an investment fund, connected with role models, and discovered new possibilities for their future.
