It’s impossible not to have been moved by the plight of the victims affected by Haiti’s devastating earthquake affecting hundreds of thousands of people on 12 January 2010. Urban Synergy would like to offer heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by the earthquake – our thoughts are with the Haitian people and with the various rescue and aid agency workers who are on the ground.
Several Urban Synergy mentors and mentees have expressed their wish to help raise funds for the Haitian earthquake victims, survivors and their families and we will keep you abreast of fundraising efforts.
In the meantime, if you would like to donate to Haiti, there are a number of UK based (or international) organisations you can consider donating to. Please be mindful that unfortunately there are already scam fundraising emails circulating – do research an organisation before donating your hard-earned cash to credible organisations.
Information on how you can may help can be found at the following.
UK Disasters & Emergencies Committee – the umbrella organisation for 13 humanitarian aid agencies – https://www.donate.bt.com/dec_form_haiti.html
United Haitians In The UK – http://www.uhuk.org – the charity is asking for donated items such as wind up torches, first aid equipment, tents, sleeping bags, clothes, dry and canned foods, sterilising water tablets and financial donations. Visit their website for information and details of drop off points.
