If you’d told 16-year-old Success that in just two years she’d be running workplace events, networking with professionals, and speaking at student panels — she might’ve smiled politely… and quietly stepped away. Because back then? Shyness ruled. being confident wasn’t even in the vocabulary.
That all started to change the moment she joined Urban Synergy’s mentoring programme at 17.
With a professional from Newable, Emma Suckling, as her mentor — a business-savvy guide with wisdom to spare — Success found her voice. Together, they focused on growth goals, tackled interview prep, chatted about career paths, and dove into the soft skills - like being confident- that truly make you stand out in any job.
But that was only the beginning.
Behind the scenes, Urban Synergy’s dream team (big shoutout to Semere!) helped Success land work experience at places like PwC and UK Power Networks. They prepped her on everything — from crafting confident communication to decoding dress codes. Every interaction was a stepping stone.
Fast forward to today and she’s thriving in an apprenticeship at M&G plc, diving into Data Management and loving every minute. But what’s made the biggest difference?
Three things Success learned in just six months at M&G
1. Curiosity pays off.
Every chat with a teammate, every research rabbit hole — it all adds up. Success discovered there’s always something new to learn if you’re paying attention (and if you’re not afraid to ask!).
2. Visibility matters.
From hosting a book raffle for a major Financial Wellbeing event, to representing apprentices at a student networking session, and even attending a FinTech conference — she’s stepping up, speaking out, and owning her space.
3. Your network is your net worth.
Contacting people, following up, having that “just a quick question” moment? Turns out, it can lead to new opportunities.
Success’s advice to anyone thinking of applying to Urban Synergy?
“Take the leap. Say yes to the opportunity. You never know where it’ll take you — but trust me, it’s somewhere great.”
