Students learn about careers in financial services at TheCityUK insight day
Thirty students from Christ the King Aquinas sixth form were given the opportunity to learn about careers in financial services at an Insight Day with TheCityUK. This industry-led body represents UK-based financial and related professional services, an industry that contributes over 12% of the UK’s total economic output, is the largest tax payer, and employs 1 in 14 people across the country.

The event was hosted by Travers Smith LLP, at their City of London office with Urban Synergy's Head of Programmes Dianne Johnson moderating the event. Chris Edwards, CSR & Diversity Director welcomed the students and the keynote was delivered by Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Services Skills Commission, Clare Tunley.

Insight day panel

Dianne Johnson interviewed the panel featuring:

  • Zachariah Harriot - Accounts Apprentice at TheCityUK
  • Alyaa Hassan - Executive, International Development at TheCityUK
  • Jamie Errington - Associate, Derivatives and Structured Products at Travers Smith
  • Nick Fuller - Global Head of Resilience Risk Management at BNY
  • Dan Thompson - Risk Analyst at Societe Generale

The panellists helped to decode their roles for the students and also shared some career insights and provided useful top tips.

After a brief cameo from Andrew Gillen, Senior Partner at Travers Smith, additional volunteers from TheCityUK, Travers Smith, BNY, Societe Generale, M&G and PwC took part in the speed mentoring session.

They shared career insights and pathways with the students to expose students to a wider range of roles within the companies and the industry as a whole. It was also an opportunity for the students to ask lots of questions.
