This November, Urban Synergy joined forces with Legal & General Investment Management to host a corporate insight day for 75 students from Woolwich Polytechnic School and Christ the King St Mary’s Sixth Form.
The day kicked off with a warm welcome from Urban Synergy’s Head of Programmes, Dianne Johnson, and Legal & General’s Co-Chairs, Michael Harrats and Jennifer Hill.
Students participated in a range of activities, from designing their own investment funds with portfolio managers to learning about CV writing and assessment centres.
A highlight was the Role Model Panel, chaired by Deon Pillay, who encouraged students to embrace a growth mindset. Panellists shared their diverse career journeys and vital workplace skills:
- Desmond Assante overcame challenges at Oxford University by building relationships;
- Hannah Ellis showed resilience in moving from social work to human resources;
- Nia Myers highlighted the importance of having a plan; and,
- Nicholas Vines proved the value of pursuing what you enjoy.
The impact
- 100% of students learned new skills valued in the workplace.
- One student shared: “The networking activities really boosted my confidence and communication skills.”
Thank you to Legal & General Investment Management for providing such a motivational and interactive experience for the students.
