Urban Synergy staged another successful Role Model seminar at Deptford Green school on Tuesday 21st September. The seminar was opened by Chad and Kofi, two of the original original creators and part of “The London Challenge Boys”. Both came from college back to their school to say how they’re glad they worked with Urban Synergy to create the “Top tips to the top” role model seminar, the school Leader of Learning Rebecca Cummings stated how the event helped the boys and the educational benefits of the seminar to the school.
The event is an opportunity to expose students to positive black role models and inspire them by talking about their road to success and obstacles experienced along the way. Deptford Green young ambassadors, together with Jackie Bygrave, Deputy Headteacher, helped to organise and advertise the seminar with Urban Synergy and BPAP.
The panel included; a Harley Street surgeon, an investment banker (Merril Lynch), barristers (Furnival Chambers), Accountants (PricewaterhouseCoopers) a Press Officer from 10 Downing Street and a music management representative. The event was hosted by MTV’s Darae Palmer. The rest of the role models, who attended the event, took part in the speed mentoring sessions that followed after the presentation.
Thank you to Sue Watson – Urban Synergy for organising and co-ordinating this event, also to BPAP and the students and staff at Deptford Green. A huge thank you to all of our role models who support us by volunteering their time for these events and continue to inspire and encourage our young people.
