Students learning about Fintech careers at a corporate insight day hosted by SimCorp
On 19th June Urban Synergy hosted a Corporate Insight Day giving students an opportunity to learn about Fintech careers with SimCorp, who provide investment management solutions and services to financial institutions.

The event took place at SimCorp’s London office and was hosted by Dianne Johnson, Urban Synergy’s Head of Programmes. SimCorp’s Chief Commercial Officer, Dean McIntyre, was the keynote speaker and talked about his role and also his career journey.

Students from St Charles Catholic Sixth Form College, based in North Kensington, attended and worked in teams to deliver a Dragons’ Den sales pitch organised by the SimCorp sales team which included: product features, environmental impact and innovation. The SimCorp team ‘Dragons’ chose the team they would ‘invest’ in. The students also had the opportunity to take part in a speed mentoring session to learn about various jobs in the organisation, career insights and also get some tips on skills needed for their roles and also ask questions.

The students also heard from Eljay, an Analyst at SimCorp, who came through the Urban Synergy mentoring programme and secured his current role through the charity.

Student feedback

  • Students rated the event 4.7 out of 5.
  • 100% learned about a career they were not aware of, skills valued in the workplace, and all of them also felt more confident about their future.
  • None of the students had previously heard of SimCorp, the Corporate Insight Day has now made them aware of their organisation and opportunities.

The whole event was a great experience, but the pitch activity really stood out to me. It was nice to work as a team, come up with creative ideas and present them to a panel. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me build confidence in speaking and thinking on my feet.”

Teacher feedback

It was a valuable experience for our students, offering them a unique opportunity to step outside the classroom and engage with real-world scenarios. The Dragons’ Den activity was well-structured, thought provoking and clearly designed to build confidence, teamwork and critical thinking. It was inspiring to see our students so engaged and challenged in a professional environment, they gained insights that will undoubtedly support their future career journeys.”
