Career journeys explored with Goldman Sachs

Students visiting Goldman Sachs for a Corporate Insight Day

“Miss, how do you become Managing Director of a major global investment banking, securities and investment management firm?” Urban Synergy shines a light on career success

Some 27 young men from St Aloysius College in North London joined Urban Synergy for a Corporate Insight Day with Goldman Sachs at their offices in the City of London.

This was an opportunity to learn more about the types of careers available, and what it takes to succeed in the global investment banking, securities and investment management firm.

Students met Emmanuel Adenitire, Managing Director Global Markets Engineering who talked about building the systems needed in the business. Growing up in Africa, studying in Europe, his career journey has been truly international.

Four of Emmanuel’s colleagues joined him for a frank panel discussion. They spoke about growing up and working in different countries before joining Goldman Sachs and transferring to their London offices. All of them tried different roles in the company before deciding their career pathway:

  • Shay Afolayan - Product Manager
  • Tobi Rufus - Global Head of Private Bank Governance & Regulatory Affairs
  • Bismark Polley - Senior Program Manager (Compliance Division)
  • Bojosi Morule - Economist

Student feedback

“I enjoyed learning about different career pathways and the kind of skills you need to work in a company like Goldman Sachs.”

“There were some software engineers who talked about what they did. This was useful as I might want to be a software engineer possibly.”

“I really enjoyed today - loved networking with people, would recommend this to a friend.”

“This is an incredible experience for me as I got to meet the employees at Goldman Sachs learning about their career paths. It taught me a lot of things about the world of technology.”

“I really enjoy the openness that we had with the panellists. Instead of a lecture, we had a conversation. I also appreciate that the workshop was very clear about the things that we need to do in order to get the results we want.”

“Learning about how different career paths can open up, when doors close others will always open. You should always be hungry for knowledge. I learned how some of these skills can be transferred to the industry I want to go into - the music industry such as leadership and communication skills. This was a wonderful experience!”

“Thank you Goldman Sachs, Emmanuel, Shay, Tobi, Bismarck, and Bojosi,” says Urban Synergy’s Dianne Johnson. “We were delighted to have this chance to hear your stories and to see how they inspired and lit up the future generation.”
