”Urban Synergy helped to inspire a group of Year 8 girls from St Matthew Academy in Lewisham to raise over £2000 and to win a National Competition.
The girls worked to raise money for One Water a Social Enterprise that sells water in the developed world, and works with communities in Africa who don’t have clean water supplies or are in need of support with their public health programmes.
The girls worked with many successful female role models on how best to raise money, the profile of One Water and to raise awareness of the campaign. Sue Watson of Urban Synergy mentored the girls and used her business contacts and experience to galvanise their efforts.
A panel drew up a national shortlist based on the schools that generated the most profit from their activity, and the winners were decided on the categories of the 3Ps: People, Planet and Profit. St Matthew Academy raised double the amount of any school nationwide.
Sue accompanied three of the girls to 10 Downing Street where they met Kevin Brennan, Minister of the Third Sector to share their experience and to tour the House of Commons. The girls are to receive an award at the National Enterprise Conference in Birmingham and with Urban Synergy behind them have pledged to raise £7000 by the end of 2009”.
